Celebrating 50 Years of Deadly
As NAIDOC Week 2026 (5-12 July) celebrates 50 Years of Deadly, it offers an opportunity to connect, listen, learn and celebrate the enduring cultures, knowledge and contributions of First Nations peoples. Across regional Western Australia, communities come together in places of gathering, reflection and celebration, continuing to strengthen and sustain culture across Country.
From festivals and art exhibitions to truth-telling events and performances, these celebrations sit at the intersection of arts, culture and community. The diverse range of activities reflects the strength, richness and diversity of First Nations people, places and stories.
The list below highlights just some of this year’s deadly NAIDOC and First Nations-led arts and cultural events taking place across regional WA.

Kullarri NAIDOC Festival | Broome | 26 June – 11 July | Multi-program
Several events taking place across Broome, including the grand NAIDOC Awards Night. Hosted by Goolarri Media Enterprises.
KWAC Bushtucker Day | Kununurra | 9 July | Cultural food
Bring your family for bushtucker day, with a cook up and activities for kids. Hosted by Kununurra Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation.
My Story, Our Country | Wyndham | 9 July | For kids
This 45-minute session includes stories and rhymes designed to develop early language, literacy and numeracy skills. Hosted by Wyndham City Libraries.
Pictures of You: Tony Birch in conversation with Bruno Lettieri | Wyndham | 9 July | Story
An evening with award‑winning author Tony Birch as he discusses Pictures of You, a powerful collection of short stories spanning two decades. Hosted by Wyndham City Libraries.
Wurrtoo: The Wombat Who Fell in Love with the Sky | Wyndham | 11 July | Music, story
A quintet of MCO string players will present a musical retelling of Tylissa Elisara’s charming story of Wurrtoo the wombat on his daring quest to marry the sky. Hosted by Wyndham City Arts and Culture.
NAIDOC Week Festival | Port Hedland | 6-11 July | Multi-program
Enjoy a stacked program across six whole days, with family days, movie screenings, and more. Hosted by the Town of Port Hedland.
The Next Generation Exhibition Opening | Karratha | 10 July | Exhibition
Celebrate The Next Generation – a powerful NAIDOC exhibition honouring emerging voices, cultural legacy, and the future of storytelling through art. Hosted by The Junction Co.
NAIDOC Under the Stars – A Community Celebration | Karratha | 11 July | Multi-program
Enjoy a night filled with live music, cultural performances, a Welcome to Country, free traditional food, and more. Hosted by the City of Karratha.
NAIDOC Week Activities | Carnarvon | 6 – 11 July | Multi-program
The week-long program is designed as an inclusive space for all residents to connect, show mutual respect, and actively engage with local Indigenous heritage. Hosted by Carnarvon NAIDOC.
Craft Activities | Exmouth | 6 & 10 July | Art workshop
In session one (6 July), design a nature bracelet using native bush flora. In session two (10 July), scratch directly onto the black board surface to see your drawings come to life in Indigenous inspired colours. Hosted by the Shire of Exmouth.
NAIDOC Mayu Ball | Geraldton | 9 July | Ball
An evening of vibrant music, engaging activities, and cultural entertainment. This special event honors the rich heritage and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Hosted by the Gerasldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service.
NAIDOC Week Community Event | Geraldton | 10 July | Multi-program
Enjoy cultural activities, information stalls and displays, and food to share together. Hosted by Desert Blue Connect and Mission Australia.
Emu egg painting with Wajarri artist Kurt McIntosh | Geraldton | 13 July | For kids
Participants will learn about the significance of the emu in Aboriginal culture before decorating their very own papier mâché emu egg canister using traditional painting techniques and earthy ochre tones. Hosted by the Museum of Geraldton.

Cooking Workshop | Merredin | 13 July | Cultural food
Learn the steps of crafting the traditional meal of Damper and Kangaroo. Hosted by the Shire of Merridin.
Growing up Nyima | Merredin | 13 July | Screening
A documentary following Nyima Tucker, a young woman of Ngarluma, Banjima, and Yamatji heritage, as she navigates life between city and country. Hosted by the Shire of Merridin.
Drawn to Country – First Nations Comic Books in WA | Mandurah | 17 June – 7 August | Exhibition
Discover the engaging world of Aboriginal storytelling through comics. Hosted by the City of Mandurah.
Koort, Boodja and Memory: A Bibbulmun Reflection Exhibition | Mandurah | 20 June – 12 July | Exhibition
An exploration of the enduring connection between Koort (heart), Boodja (Country), and the ancestral memory carried through generations of the Bibbulmun people. Hosted by the City of Mandurah.
Story Time in the Town Square | Murray | 8 July | For kids
Bring your little ones along to the Pinjarra Town Square for a special NAIDOC Story Time. This interactive story-based session is perfect for pre-schoolers and their carers. Hosted by Murray Library.
Story Time with Kalyajoorl | Serpentine Jarrahdale | 8 July | For kids
Step into the magic of Noongar storytelling in this lively, family-friendly session for children and carers. Discover traditional stories, learn simple Noongar words through fun interactive activities, and enjoy a creative craft inspired by the tales shared. Hosted by Serpentine Jarrahdale Library Services.
Dance and Rhythm Workshop | Serpentine Jarrahdale | 9 July | Dance
An engaging and interactive performance workshop where participants will explore dance, rhythm, and movement through fun cultural activities. Hosted by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.
NAIDOC week cultural celebration event | Mandurah | 9 July | Multi-program
bringing people together through music, cultural workshops, food, and dance. Enjoy live DJ music, hands-on tool making, bush tucker experiences, and a traditional dance performance, honouring and celebrating Aboriginal and Indigenous culture. Hosted by the City of Mandurah.
Paint and Yarning Art Workshop | Serpentine Jarrahdale | 10 July | Art workshop
Join award-winning Noongar artist Fiona Reidy for a creative and culturally rich art workshop inspired by storytelling, connection and self-expression. Hosted by the Shire of Murray.
Forty Years of Fire Dreaming | Margaret River | 4 – 19 July | Exhibition
A unique exhibition celebrating the 40-year legacy of Warlukurlangu (Warlu) Artists, one of Australia’s most respected Aboriginal-Owned Art Centres and a leading example of Indigenous cultural leadership. Hosted by Yallingup Aboriginal Art.
Ngaluk Waangkiny | Margaret River | 2 July – 3 August | Screening
This landmark, multi-media storytelling project has made it to the South West. Ten respected Elders from Boorloo (Perth) have collaborated with Community Arts Network to share their life journeys as part of this truth-telling project. Hosted. by Arts Margaret River.
Baranga Maditjil Boodja: Totem Magic Country | Albany | 15 June – 23 July | Exhibition
Discover contemporary Noongar artworks that celebrate identity, connection, and creativity from the Great Southern. Hosted by Gorenang Moortabiin.
Binalup, Menang: First Light, First People | Albany | 26 June – 26 July | Exhibition
A Menang-led collaboration between Elders and award-winning portrait photographer Nic Duncan, this exhibition features a series of 29 portraits of Elders and other key Menang people. Presented by Carol Pettersen & Nic Duncan.
Kalyagul: Connections to Menang Country Exhibition | Albany | 4 July – 21 February | Exhibition
This landmark exhibition celebrates Menang people’s profound connections to the land, sea and skies of Albany and their crucial role in shaping how the region’s natural world was explored and understood. Presented by Western Australian Museum and Deakin University in collaboration with members of the Menang Noongar community.
Create & Celebrate: NAIDOC Week Fun | Albany | 5 – 12 July | For kids
Children and families are invited to enjoy a variety of drop-in activities inspired by Sea Country. From dot painting and crafting wooden animal necklaces to making rainmakers. Hosted by the Museum of Great Southern.
Mindful Canvas: Sea & Country | Albany | 8 & 13 July | For kids
In this gentle, hands-on workshop, children will create their own dot‑painted or mandala‑style canvas inspired by the colours, patterns, and stories of Sea Country. Hosted by the Museum of Great Southern.
Firestarter – The Story of Bangarra | Albany | 9 July | Screening
Celebrating Bangarra’s 30th Anniversary, Firestarter tells the story of how three young Aboriginal brothers Stephen, David and Russell Page turned a new dance group into a First Nations cultural powerhouse. Hosted by the City of Albany.
Storytime: Mamang | Albany | 9 July | For kids
Perfect for young children, this calm and engaging session explores a beautiful Aboriginal story of Sea Country through storytelling and cultural connection. After the story, children will enjoy a simple hands-on activity, followed by a seaside-themed shared lunch. Hosted by the Museum of Great Southern.
Goldfields St Ives: NINTILA: Kalgoorlie Aboriginal Film Festival | Kalgoorlie-Boulder | 6-10 July | Screening
Screening six feature films and four short films to Orana Cinemas Kalgoorlie, all tickets are FREE and available from the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre (GALCAC), at Boulder Railway Building, Loopline Park. Hosted by GALCAC.

Discover how Aboriginal knowledge has shaped the land through food, healing and culture. Hosted by the Museum of the Goldfields.
