AusArt Day 2026: Donate to our Get Me There fund
This AusArt Day, we’re raising money for Get Me There, our new regional artist travel fund. Western Australia covers nearly one-third of the continent, and for many regional artists, simply reaching Perth is a major journey. From Ravensthorpe, it’s a five-and-a-half-hour drive in a car you own and fuel yourself, or an eight-hour bus trip that runs only a few times a week. From Derby, there’s no direct flight south, so you drive two and a half hours to Broome and then fly to Perth, which can cost around $600 in fuel and airfares. Driving the whole way is 2,400km, or roughly twenty-five hours behind the wheel.
And that’s before the music festival in Nannup, the exhibition in Brisbane or the writing residency in Rome, where the time and cost multiply again and again. Regional artists are doing extraordinary work, and distance and cost shouldn’t stand between them and their next big opportunity.
