The following recipients successfully received funding through the RAF Project Grants and Quick Response Grants in recent rounds (since 2023).
The Regional Arts Fund Quick Response Grant is an Australian Government Program that supports sustainable cultural development in regional and remote communities in Australia.
The Regional Arts Fund is designed to benefit regional and remote arts practitioners, arts workers, audiences and communities.
The program is managed nationally by Regional Arts Australia and is delivered in all states and the Northern Territory by Regional Program Administrators.

Broome Mardi Gras 2025
The Broome Mardi Gras, hosted by Broome Pride, is a week-long festival celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community in Broome, WA. Running from February 26 to March 4, 2025, it marks over a decade of diversity with events like dance classes, cabaret shows, the Big Splash Boat Party, and Mardi Gras Buzz Regatta.

Regional Arts Workshop Series 2025
The Shire of East Pilbara is hosting arts workshops in Newman and Tom Price from May to September 2025. Monthly sessions include an evening community workshop and day workshops in Newman with Martumili Artists. In Tom Price, sessions will be held with Tom Price High School and at The Nintirri Centre’s Arts Hub.
Codee-Lee Down | $30,000 | South West
Codee-Lee Development and Recording Project
Goomburrup artist Codee-Lee will undergo professional development with producer James Newhouse at Lambchop Records, creating six new songs. This project explores fresh sounds and techniques to evolve her music. After development, the tracks will be recorded, mixed, and mastered for release.
Bunbury Fringe Festival | $25,000 | South West
Bunbury Fringe 2025
Bunbury Fringe’s 9th year in 2025 will be an 8-day festival engaging over 7,000 people from the South West, Wheatbelt, Great Southern, and Perth Metro. Running from January 24 to February 1, the event focuses on connecting community through the arts, featuring free family events, music, theater, circus, drag, comedy, film, and more, celebrating regional creativity and supporting local artists.
Country Music Club of Boyup Brook WA | $30,000 | South West
2025 Boyup Brook Country Music Muster
The 2025 Boyup Brook Country Music Muster will feature WA’s best Country musicians, showcasing 200 artists across 12 venues over three days (February 14–16). Highlights include the WA Country Music Awards, street carnival, Ute and Truck Muster, bush poetry breakfast, and fringe activities like art awards and industry workshops. The festival supports regional artists, fosters community spirit, and solidifies Boyup Brook’s identity as WA’s Country Music Capital.
Harvey Mainstreet Incorporated | $20,000 | South West
Harvey Harvest Festival 2025
The 2025 Harvey Harvest Festival (March 7-9) celebrates local talent and culture with a free “Under the Stars” concert, showcasing emerging musicians, and activities promoting Harvey businesses. Highlights include a Southwest Opera Company performance, WA Grape Stomping Championships, an Arts Hub, live music, and family-friendly entertainment.

Cocos Batik Revival Project
The Cocos Batik Revival project, led by artist Jacky Cheng, reintroduces traditional and modern Batik techniques to the Cocos Islands. Community and school workshops will build skills, fostering creative independence and laying the foundation for future commercial Batik production. Sessions on Home and West Islands will teach Cold Wax (modern) and Hot Wax (traditional) Batik methods, ensuring safety and cultural authenticity.

Downsyde and Guests at Nannup Music Festival
Perth HipHop band Downsyde will perform at the 2025 Nannup Music Festival, joined by First Nations artists Kyle Bartlett (Karratha) and Lyrical Instinct (Jacob Gregory, Broome). Funding will support travel costs for Kyle and Jacob, giving them the chance to perform at a major festival. The event showcases emerging First Nations talent, offering Perth and South West audiences a unique opportunity to experience music from the Pilbara and Kimberley regions.

Hard As Puck – Producer Development
Funding will support the production of Hard as Puck, a debut feature documentary following Para-Ice Hockey players competing for Australia’s first national team. Over 2025-2026, the filmmaker will manage crew, scheduling, budgeting, and post-production across regional Australia. Highlighting disability representation on and off-screen, the project addresses gaps in media diversity.

Artist in Residency with Denmark Arts
Leah Vlatko, a textile artist from Jambinu, will attend the Denmark Artist in Residence program in February/March 2025. The residency will provide focused time to create, explore nature, and develop new work inspired by local flora. Leah will offer workshops and an open studio, fostering community engagement and future regional collaborations.

2025 Jamba Nyinayi Festival Baiyungu Cultural Dance Program
The Jamba Nyinayi Festival (18-20 April 2025) promotes Baiyungu culture through dance and storytelling. The festival’s dance program, led by choreographer Janine Oxenham and cultural director Hazel Walgar, features Pundarra Performance Group and Coral Spawn. It fosters intergenerational knowledge transfer, cultural expression, and engagement, ensuring the continuity of Baiyungu traditions and connection to country and language.

Lunar Circus – Circus School Workshops
Lunar Circus ran a series of 18 circus skills workshops leading up to Port Hedland’s The Spinifex Spree Carnival, a free two-day festival. The workshops encouraged participation from diverse community groups, welcoming participants from 5-year-olds to adults with varying skill levels.
Pilbara and Kimberley Aboriginal Media | $30,000 | Kimberley
Remote Indigenous Community Music Workhops, Recording and Live Performance support
Pilbara and Kimberley Aboriginal Media coordinated the PAKAM Music truck to deliver workshops, radio recordings, and live performance opportunities for local musicians in remote Aboriginal communities, including Warmun, Kalumburu, and Bidyadanga. The initiative aimed to support and promote local musical talent in these areas.

Xhalisse EP Production and Launch
Geraldton band, Xhalisse will produce a six-song EP and launch show to showcase their unique blend of ethereal dreaminess and grungy rock that pushes artistic boundaries, to audiences in the Midwest and beyond. The EP will feature a lineup of diverse instrumentation and immersive elements.
Albany Aboriginal Corporation | $30,000 | Great Southern
Menang Maart
Menang Maart was a collaboration between the Albany Aboriginal Corporation and Gorenang Moortabiin, celebrating and preserving Noongar artistic traditions in the Wagyl Kaip region. Through immersive workshops using shadow puppetry, projection, animation, and music, key artists and community groups explored traditional stories, captured on film and digitally enhanced for presentation.

Haystack Mountain School of Crafts Fellowship Placement and American Glass Guild Conference
Artist Hannah Maling undertook a metalworking fellowship at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine, USA. This experience allowed her to enhance her skills for creating larger public art structures in glass and steel. Hannah also built international connections while attending the American Glass Guild Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Strong Women. Strong Communities
Camera Story hosted a workshop intensive in the Kalumburu Community, focusing on documentary and visual narrative photography. The Kalumburu Photography Collective documented local flora and cultural stories to produce informative postcards, generating income for the collective and serving as an educational tool showcasing Kwini Country and Kalumburu culture.
Chrissie Parrott | $30,000 | South West
FLOW
Artist Chrissie Parrott created a community-focused dance work performed at the Nannup Flower and Garden Festival in August 2024. Featuring a cast of 30 community dancers from Nannup, Manjimup, and Northcliffe, the project celebrated dance’s role in fostering community connection and highlighting the Nannup region’s cultural landscape.

Lighting the Bay in Man Gala Season: Community Lantern Project
This community-led initiative lit up the streets of Broome with lanterns, static illuminated sculptures, and a parade. Local storytelling, along with community and school-based workshops, led to the design and creation of the illuminated artworks. The project supported employment, training opportunities, and skills development for the wider Broome community.

Songs of freedom: Next Generation
The Songs for Freedom: Next Generation provided young people (aged 10-25) from Ieramugadu (Roebourne) with professional development in songwriting and music. Participants performed at the 2024 ‘Murru/Songs for Peace/Freedom’ concert, held in Ieramugadu, to an audience of 3000 people.
Kimberley Arts Network | $26,881 | Kimberley
Talismans: Power and Charm
The ‘Talismans: Power and Charm’ project is part of the 2024 Indian Ocean Craft Triennial, and included an exhibition at Old Sailmakers Shed in Broome, community engagement, and a live-streamed artists’ panel. Partnered with Art on the Move, it features works by Jacky Cheng, Clare Peake, Vanessa Margetts, Angela Bakkar, and Yiriman project women.

First Nations Queer Writers Program at Kimberley Blak Pride
Magabala Books partnered with Goolarri Media to present the first Queer Writers program at the inaugural Kimberley Blak Pride Festival in Rubibi (Broome). The program provided a voice and safe space for the Kimberley’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander SBLGBTIQA+ community, supporting over 20 local writers and artists in workshops with four queer First Nations writers.

Rivers of Thirst | Beacons of Hope
Rivers of Thirst | Beacons of Hope was a multi-stakeholder arts project across five communities in the Southern Forests & Valleys region. It inspired climate hope and eco-agency, supporting well-being through uplifting experiences. The project raised awareness of drought impacts and aimed to enhance social capital through accessible, hands-on activities.
Baiyungu Aboriginal Corporation | $30,000 | Gascoyne
Jamba Nyinayi Festival 2024
The Jamba Nyinayi Festival (JNF) was a pinnacle Indigenous cultural arts and community festival held on Baiyungu Country at Cardabia Station, near Coral Bay, WA, successfully launched in 2023. In 2024, the free festival attracted campers, tourists, and local communities seeking authentic experiences with traditional owners of the Ningaloo region.
Breaksea | $30,000 | Great Southern
Malkar/ Thunderstorm
Malkar/Thunderstorm was a singing, acting, and dance workshop and performance series exploring personal growth through the metaphor of a thunderstorm. Over three months in Kinjarling, the program fostered collaboration between youth and Breaksea’s Noongar/Wadjella professionals, providing cultural activities for over 2,000 youth, including school incursions and a residency.
Blackwood River Arts Trail | $7,500 | South West
Blackwood River Arts Trail 2024
BRAT 2024 provided opportunities for artists from the Blackwood River region of WA to showcase their work in home studios and galleries, or by partnering with local cafes, gift shops or wineries. The regional communities in and around the four shires of the Blackwood River Valley were enlivened by access to an array of cultural experiences that include exhibitions, creative demonstrations, live musical performances and arthouse films.

Fujiwhara
Fujiwhara is a novel-length contemporary fiction set in Western Australia, following multiple characters as they navigate the arrival of two cyclonic weather systems from the Indian Ocean. The narrative explores contemporary Australian life and generational issues against the urgent backdrop of climate change.
Marrugeku | $30,000 | Kimberley
Burrbgaja Yalirra 2 Kimberley Community Dance Workshop Program
Marrugeku presented a tailored community dance workshop program in three remote Kimberley communities to complement the tour of BURRBGAJA YALIRRA 2 [DANCING FORWARDS] TRIPLE BILL. This project showcased Marrugeku’s practice of using local cultural stories to express movement and aims to facilitate local dance practice and storytelling.
Michelle Slarke | $75,00 | Wheatbelt
Fallen
Michelle Slarke developed new works intersecting visual art, conservation, agriculture, and community activism. FALLEN began with a found bird nest and utilised funding for installations, digital footage, and a literary-visual publication, leading to solo exhibitions. The project creatively examined land use and stewardship through terrestrial farm waste.

another way
The project supported the final preparation and installation of work by Helen Seiver and Desmond Taylor for Exhibition; “another way”, Holmes a Court Gallery. The funds enabled the selection and printing of important still images and the processing of video footage of site specific work and installation filmed in Nullagine, WA. Additionally the grant supported the documentation of the Gallery installation of the work.

New Narratives: Personal development program for new and emerging authors
The New Narratives program provided eight opportunities for new and emerging authors to participate in development sessions leading to a writers’ workshop at MRRWF 2024. Aimed at skill-building, mentoring, and personal growth, the project encouraged authors to share their writing journeys, igniting passion for writing among attendees.

Scones with Nanna tour of Wheatbelt WA
Nanna’s story emerges through the fog of dementia. This work is a truth-telling that exposes secrets hidden for generations. Nanna was born rough, raised posh and taught to forget.
The setting begins in 1972, tracing back 100 years of history to tell the story of how families dealt with rapid changes and the trauma caused by the Aborigines Act 1905, legislation which forced Indigenous mothers to make horrific decisions about what do to with their mixed-race children.
This site specific, multi artform work commences production in 2023, ready to tour WA regional towns Moora, Toodyay, Beverley, and finishing at the York Festival.

The Marri Tree Girl – Creative Development Stage
The Marri Tree Girl is an original puppet-based initiative by Sky River, providing professional development opportunities for regional artists to collaborate on a new piece of Western Australian theatre.
Weaving worlds of science and storytelling, this fictional work experiments with various art-forms including puppetry, digital media, film, music and contemporary performance to explore ecological themes. The Creative Development Stage funds a team of skilled regional performers to upskill in puppetry, explore the script and integrate digital media at Margaret River HEART. An interactive showing will invite local community groups and industry professionals who have previously engaged in the show’s development.

Living on the Edge Festival
Living on the Edge is a festival of youth performing arts. Held in Albany, the festival includes the presentation of four contemporary youth devised performances across each weekend in October.
Regional Youth will create and present cabaret, circus, theatre and fire performances that are accessible to audiences in the Great Southern Region.

Fairy Queen: The Carnival
Fairy Queen: The Carnival is a multi-disciplinary semi-opera which creates opportunities for skilled professionals in a range of creative disciplines to mentor emerging creatives and community members across Western Australia’s Great Southern region.
This large community project explores Denmark Baroque’s historically and contemporarily uneasy relationship with the ‘wild’, physically and psychologically. The performance outcome is Baroque Opera and Shakespeare laced with a vaudeville blend of circus, contemporary poetry and immersive theatre, which will be presented on the banks of the Kwoorabup River (Denmark) on Labour Day weekend 2024.

The language of birds
Abdul-Rahman will create a new body of work ‘The language of birds’ and present at the Melbourne Art Fair representing gallery Moore Contemporary in February 2024.
Birds are a repeated motif in Abdul’s work, exploring ideas of communication, language, and symbolism. ‘The language of birds’ furthers his investigations into modes of communication with the natural world with a suite of sculptures embodying the fragmentation of ideas when turned into objects and language. Expanding on the Sufi (Islamic mysticism) tradition of a ‘Divine language’ encoded within birdsong, the works question the limits of language in communicating an objective understanding of the natural world.

Always Good Nights
Good Nights are boutique music events held in regional Western Australia, with a focus on connecting local communities with live music.
Each show will take place in a unique setting that is not a traditional music venue, such as churches, art galleries and local businesses. These shows are a safe and welcoming space where songwriters can share their music with an audience who are actively listening and engaged, creating an environment that is a celebration of music between the artist and the listener. Good Nights work closely with local businesses, arts workers and musicians in regional centres to create these special events.

Etude; Midwest Art Music Ensemble
Etude will be Geraldton’s first experimental art music ensemble and the only one of its nature in the Mid West region dedicated to offering exciting newly commissioned works from regional composers performed by an ensemble of local performers.
This initial development will lay the groundwork for the ensemble’s musical direction and philosophy, establish strong partnerships throughout the Mid West and generate movement for programming community engagement opportunities which will benefit the wider community via workshops and lead to collaborative compositions and mentoring with a focus on First Nations youth. This project will culminate in Etude’s premier performance in the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery.

Cowara Bird Project
The Cowara Bird Project is a story-telling contemporary dance performance engaging children in the local community to celebrate the Noongar Cowara story.
The town of Cowaramup has been known to the local Wardandi people as the place of the Cowara, the purple crowned lorikeet, for thousands of years. This vibrant performance brings light to the story of the Cowara bird in a meaningful and creative way to broaden the community’s connection to the essence of Cowaramup and its Wardandi history.

Cultivating connections & creative leadership – 2023 Regional Visual Arts Summit
An estimated 40 creative leaders from across all 9 regions of WA will participate in a 3-day Summit held in Perth to focus collective energy on increased connection, collaboration and sustainability within WA’s regional visual arts sector.
Inclusion of emerging–to-established and independent-to-employed artists, arts workers and arts organisation representatives ensures a whole of sector approach to capacity building, with free registration and access to travel bursaries if required. This multi-agency initiative amplifies the impact of the Open Borders survey exhibition and dovetails with the current review of the regional exhibition touring strategy.

Weaving in feelings of flood
The initial idea planned by Marnin Studio was a cross-regional project with a goal to link local women who weave with their contemporaries in the Pilbara, however, the flooding across the Fitzroy Valley has reduced the scope and brought the project back closer to home.
Weaving in feelings of flood aims to bring women together through weaving, to untangle the effect of the floodwaters on homes and families while the weavers learn new skills and develop new works.

NG Media will support Moonlight Reggae Band and Katrina Connelly at Bush Bands Business, providing travel, mentoring, and documentation to build skills, industry connections, and cultural storytelling through workshops and the Bush Bands Bash performance.

Charlotte White will attend the annual Essence of Hoi An Craftmanship Festival where she will extend her skillbase through a series of art and craft workshops.

Local artists will host an interactive art trail in Geraldton, featuring open studios, workshops, talks, and tours of historic buildings.
Exmouth Youth Centre | $3,900 | Gascoyne
Kaboom Toons will run workshops at the Exmouth Youth Centre during the September/October school holidays, providing local children with hands-on art experiences that foster creativity, engagement, and connection with their community and the newly established Youth Centre.

Venus 8 is a documentary photo series on women and non-binary erotic labourers’ pre-performance states. Selected for Head On Photo Festival 2025, it will be exhibited at THS Gallery.

Vickie Wagner will travel to Darwin with Peter Salmon and Rekeshia Goodwin to present a keynote at Puliima and perform with Warralgurniya, sharing their family’s journey of language revival, musical storytelling, and cultural connection in a rare, powerful event.

A photography exhibition of 35–45 macro works exploring contextual separation from reality. Touring three regional galleries in 2025, it includes digital displays, mentorship, and a mental health-focused community workshop using creative arts for recovery and improved mental health outcomes.

Renowned artist Joshua Yeldham will mentor Aboriginal artist Lloyd Kwilla during a two-week residency, enhancing his painting, sculpting, and wood engraving skills while exploring cultural narratives and providing insights into the contemporary art market for professional growth.

Alex Desebrock will undertake a 6-week residency at The Cannery Arts Centre, exploring “Tree Listening” through workshops, an immersive installation, and public talks.

Dulcie’s artwork portray the desert’s hues and textures, embodying her Tjukurrpa (creation story) with clay pans and water holes. Angelina Karadada Boona, a senior artist at the Kira Kiro Artists Project in Kalumburu, has been supported by the Aboriginal Contemporary Gallery in Sydney since 2020. They’ve offered her a solo exhibition slot in April, which presents a crucial opportunity for promoting her work and enhancing her professional development through audience engagement. Angelina will also mentor her granddaughter, Edreena Karadada, during this trip, providing her with valuable guidance and inspiration.

“It Woke the Town Up” is an exhibition spotlighting the 1976 Bunbury woodchip bombing, a protest against old growth forest logging in Western Australia. Initially presented in the 2023 Bunbury Regional Art Gallery Biennale and the 2023 National Trust’s Sharing Stories Australian Heritage Festival, it’s now set to tour the Museum of the Great Southern in 2024. Funding aids curator Amanda Gardiner’s travel and accommodation costs from April to May 2024.

Elise Fenn, an arts therapist, participated in a two-week cross-cultural therapeutic arts exchange in Tanzania in February 2024, hosted by Global Africa Alliance. She spent an additional three weeks in Tanzania and Rwanda researching organisations addressing social issues through the arts, enriching her toolkit for her work in the Kimberley.
