Shinju Moonrise Event

Shinju Moonrise Event

Regional Arts WA

The Shire of Broome and Shinju Matsuri Festival received funding to support artist fees for a commemorative multi-cultural event celebrating the rise of the full moon and the newly erected public artwork ‘Fusion’ in Chinatown, Broome.

The Shinju Fusion Moonrise connected a number of themes that reflected the character and culture of Broome and its strong relationships with its environment. The town’s multicultural community, its pearling heritage and the saltwater environment are integral to both the Shinju Festival and the ‘Fusion: interwoven cultures” sculpture. The sculpture now stands as an entry to Chinatown and celebrates these intertwined cultural influences.
