Pinjarra Senior High School Mural

Regional Arts WA

Young people in Pinjarra collaborated with artist Daniel Smith on a mural project where they incorporated their new school house system, Earth, Scarp, Forest, Towns and River, and the Indigenous names for those into the artwork.

Participants, including the student council, developed skills in how to use spray paint art equipment safely, and techniques on how to make the artwork more realistic. The new artwork now lives on the wall in an area of the school with the most foot traffic, and is a strong reflection of what’s happening in the school at the moment.

The unveiling of the mural coincided with the Pinjarra Festival, and project coordinators created a ‘Peek Into Pinny’ series on the school’s Facebook page to introduce the mural to the community and promote it to people entering the school during the festival.

“As the mural is in a central location of the school, it gives everyone a sense of pride in their House. The mural has become a part of the school’s identity.”
