Barefoot Bands – Epic of Gilgamesh

Barefoot Bands – Epic of Gilgamesh

Regional Arts WA

Barefoot Bands worked in collaboration with Perth artists Injured Ninja to bring their performance Epic of Gilgamesh to the Coolgardie town centre in May 2022. Residents were invited to participate in this multi-faceted live art event through music and skill sharing workshops including sculpture, art, make-up and technical production.

Aims of the project included generating the local economy and providing development opportunities for local artists. Barefoot Bands incorporated local young filmmakers and artists to learn directly from their team who then became a big part of the project on the night.

“There were many opportunities to incorporate local townspeople for this performance from catering to equipment hire. It was great to connect with the wider community in Coolgardie.”

Immediate need: After two years of delays due to COVID, Injured Ninja expressed a desire to record and film this performance the first half of 2022, which gave limited time for these artists to be able to travel to Coolgardie for this purpose. With the support of the Shire and local corporations, it was an opportune time to create a community event with these artists while they are able to take this performance to regional WA and timely for building the profile of Barefoot Bands by working with these artists.
