Mandurah youth theatre company Riptide engaged award-winning international theatre company Tooth + Nail to run a full-day intensive workshop of cutting edge performance techniques.

The young participants took advantage of the rare opportunity to develop their theatre skills with professional artists trained in the experimental Lecoq technique.

The physical theatre development challenged and extended the young participants and left them with new skills to take their ongoing work to the next level. Participants performed a community showing at the conclusion of the workshop.

Young project coordinator Scarlett Yakovina detailed the significance of the project for Riptide’s young emerging artists:

“This was a very rewarding experience as Riptide realised what they were capable of and what they can aspire to within physical theatre. Previously, Riptide have not had many opportunities to be truly challenged and thus this project was very valuable.”

Drug Aware YCulture Regional funding is open year-round, offering up to $6,000 to support creative community projects for young people aged 12-26 in regional Western Australia. Find out more.
