Drug Aware YCulture links Indigenous Busselton youth to traditional dance

Young locals in Busselton engaged Manjar Maamun Nyumbi Theatre Group to run traditional cultural dance workshops to enable local youth to share the skill of traditional dance.
Participants had the opportunity to perform their new skills at the Undalup Djeran youth event, held in conjunction with the City of Busselton’s Southwest Youth Festival 2017.
A huge 720 people participated in the workshops, with the resulting performance showcased to an audience of approximately 1500 community members.
“Since our Youth event our Aboriginal families, young people and children have now felt comfortable amongst others at the Busselton youth precinct…by attending and participating on the day of the event… the barriers are coming down amongst our community members with everyone feeling inclusive at the community skate park and family area of the park.
The interesting people who turned up for the workshop seeking a cultural connection with us, made us proud, giving us confidence and great self-esteem.”
