Avon Valley Drug Aware Dry-Art Workshop & Exhibition

Avon Valley Drug Aware Dry-Art Workshop & Exhibition

Regional Arts WA

Young people in Northam participated in a series of five dry art workshops with artist Lorraine Pichugin.

Participants developed techniques in composition and technical drawing, and explored new mediums and colour mixing skills with pan pastels. They tried their hands at both still-life and portraits, exploring light and shadow and various profiles. The workshops culminated in an exhibition at the Avon Valley Arts Society (AVAS) Arts Centre of the artworks created by the participants.

Following the workshops, the Avon Valley Arts Society Inc. held their annual “Northam Art Prize” with over 140 Art works entered. Many of the workshop attendees gained the confidence to enter their works in the Youth Section. Excitingly, Project Coordinator Maybel won the Youth Art Prize and Project Coordinator Chelsea was Runner-Up.

“[The project] bought a new activity for the youth of Northam to enjoy and included Drawing at a new level. It was also the first real workshop that was hosted by the new AVAS committee since taking the reigns in late May 2021. This has lead to other workshops and group sessions being undertaken, engaging the local community in the Arts.”
