Celebrating Shows on the Go
After 27 years, Regional Arts WA has farewelled its beloved regional touring program, Shows on the Go.
A wonderful celebration at the State Theatre Centre brought together regional presenters old and new, past tour managers, tour coordinators, touring producers and many past and present Regional Arts WA staff and board.
The night included some impressive speeches “Simply the best arts speech ever… and I’ve heard a few” was Heather Locke’s remark on Philippa Maughan’s speech, who has worked on the Shows on the Go program for 14 years,
Mand Markey, former Tour Manager, and long-term Shows on the Go presenter, David Marshall of the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre, also brought the laughter and the emotion with theirs.
Guests were treated to a short video tracing the 27 years on the road, as well as performances from YUCK Circus, who wrapped up the program with the final tour in March this year, and Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys, who toured for Shows on the Go in 2009.
Against a backdrop of gold tassels and carefully strung tour t-shirt bunting, we laughed, we danced, we revelled and we remembered the magic and the joy that Shows on the Go has brought to so many.
