Career Kick-Starter Grants Now Available for Young Artists and Arts Workers

Regional Arts WA

Emerging artists and arts workers living in regional Western Australia can now apply for Regional Arts WA’s Next Level YCulture Regional Grant to help kick-start their career in the arts.

The Next Level Regional Grants, presented by Healthway Drug Aware and supported by the State Government’s Regional Arts and Cultural Investment Program (RACIP), provide up to seven $7,500 grants to artists and arts workers aged between 18-26 years.

Regional Arts WA welcomes artists and arts workers from all art forms including visual arts, theatre, dance, writing, music, film, new media and cultural projects. The grants can support young artists and arts workers to travel within WA, secure mentorships with esteemed industry experts, and even research and residencies.

Last year, five recipients were supported to undertake a period of creative and professional development through the Next Level Regional Grants:

Brooke Collard collaborated with respected Noongar Elder Pop Koordah to develop a documentary and support her in her practice as a writer and producer to tell compelling and authentic stories from a First Nation’s perspective.

“The NLRG [Next Level Regional Grants] has encouraged my family to trace their family tree in detail in order to capture it on film. It has become a pivotal project that will now capture our history in detail and we can pass this on to future generations”, says Collard.

Megan Lemon was mentored by Esperance based theatre technician Timothy Currie and has built networks within the WA tech sector to support her in her work in a number of multi-use venues and regional locations.

“This grant has allowed me to not only increase my capacity and ability as a lighting and sound technician but has also led me to meet lots of new people which has opened up so many new and exciting opportunities for me”, says Lemon.

Next Level YCulture Regional Grants close 5pm, Wednesday 8 June 2022. For more information on how to apply, please visit www.regionalartswa.org.au/funding/nlrg/
