A quick chat with the new YCulture Regional designer!
Every now and then the time comes to give our programs a little tszujing up in the visuals department to ensure that they catch the eye of potential applicants, and give them all the information they need to start thinking about an application.
This is especially vital when it comes to our youth-driven Drug Aware YCulture Regional program. This is the first grant application that many young artists and arts workers have ever made – they aren’t out there looking for arts funding already – so it’s an important job to not only draw their attention, but convince them that this is going to be a great opportunity for them. All of this while also giving them the confidence to assure them that their project idea is worth funding, and their creativity is worth pursuing!
So, we are delighted to let you know that for the recent YCulture redesign the task was placed in the very capable hands of an emerging Bunbury artist (herself a previous YCulture recipient) – Codee-Lee Down.
Codee-Lee has been practicing graphic design professionally for the past two years, having picked up some skills from her husband (who was a qualified graphic designer) and developing on those.
Recently she’s landed a few “big jobs” which Codee-Lee says is “exciting and also encouraging” since she is relatively new to the field.
“I love graphic design because there are so many ways you can take something simple and make it visually appealing,” she says.
“Being a musician who also has to work a day job I realised that whatever I did had to be creative. I’m such a creative person and I need that outlet and graphic design has been the perfect match for that.”
Drug Aware YCulture regional is a grant of up to $4,000 for those aged 12 – 26 living in regional WA (up to $6,000 for those living in remote areas or above the 26th parallel) which supports the delivery of youth-driven arts projects across any artform. If you’re interested in finding out more or making an application, read more here.
If you think there’s some youth in your community who would benefit from Drug Aware YCulture Regional please feel free to use the materials designed by Codee-Lee to promote the program! You can download them here, and are welcome to distribute them on social media, or print them off to be handed out or posted around town.
