Daniel Walbidi, an artist from Bidyadanaga – a remote Indigenous community in the Kimberley – was presented with an opportunity to exhibit his artwork at the New Frontiers exhibition at Linden New Art Gallery in July 2015.

Daniel produced high quality in-situ art work that allowed him to engage and network with fellow artists, curators, industry professionals and private collectors. This included having the opportunity to work with gallery staff of a major public gallery that has over 15 years’ experience in presenting contemporary Aboriginal art.

“Daniel reached a wide range of industry professionals and opportunities through this cultural exchange. Opportunities came from both the private sector such as working with Linden New Art for the first time and being in contact with major private collectors.”

“The opportunities also extended through to the public sector, liaising with arts workers from the NGV and Museum Victoria which lead to increased economic opportunities for Daniel and an interest in him being a part of more installation-based works in the future.

These opportunities were fantastic for an artist living in such a remote Indigenous community.”  Tahnee Roberts – Exhibitions Coordinator, Short Street Gallery, Broome
